Many potatoes treated after the harvest: take care when shopping

We like to eat potatoes with the shell, e.g. as baked potatoes. For many years, many potatoes have been treated after the harvest. The agents are called chlorpropham, imazalil or thiabendazole. The procedure is legal. But who wants to eat something like that?

The note "treated after harvesting" must stand with packaged potatoes. He does, but very small, barely legible. Also with open sold potatoes must indicate a hint on the above mentioned substances. But I have never seen this while shopping. Questions about preservatives are almost always answered in the following way: I do not think that there is something on it!

Even with potatoes that I bought packaged by a farmer from our area, a note was included: After the harvest treated. Mind you, this note was on the net, not visible from the outside.

Bioware was always missing the hint. Organic farmers may also treat after harvesting, but only with substances that are e.g. Menthol included. (not really appetizing either!) The best thing would be to grow your own potatoes, or buy directly from the farmers at the farm. Organic is okay too. I think if I can do without preservatives then I do too. So take care when shopping!
