Mint crayons melt

From old remnants of crayons, you can make new colorful pens for gift decoration or as a giveaway for children's birthday parties. The wax crayon residues can be easily melted in the oven.

Crayons are still part of everyday school life. Unfortunately, they break off from time to time and with a short amount of time it is difficult to paint. In the course of time, some remnants come together. But you do not have to throw it away. The leftovers can be remelted in the oven and processed into new pens. To melt the pens, all paper remnants must first be removed. Then the wax pencils are broken and cut with the knife into small pieces.

Melting in silicone molds

Silicone molds are best for melting. The crumbled wax stick residues are filled into the silicone molds and melted at about 140-150 ° C in the oven within 10-15 minutes. In doing so, pour a little more wax residue, so that the mold is well filled after melting. When the wax cools down, it is hard again and the new wax creations are easily released from the mold. In addition to silicone baking molds, silicone molds can also be used for ice cubes. If you do not have a silicone mold at home, you can alternatively decorate baking molds for muffins with aluminum foil and melt the pens in them.

The remains do not have to be sorted by color. It also looks great when very different colors are melted in a mold. There are no limits to creativity. The wax is very hot and liquid after melting. I let the mold cool in the oven and take it out only when the wax is a little firmer. So no liquid wax can run over your fingers. When the oven is opened after melting, a small mist cloud comes out. Best then air well.

This is needed:

  • Remains of crayons
  • Silicone mold (alternatively design muffin mold with aluminum foil)
