No sauce binder at hand - what now?

Simply add cornflour (amount as needed) with a little water. Must not be watery, so not too much water, just enough so that it binds well. Mix well. Finished! Now you have your sauce binder and you can stir it into the appropriate sauce. By the way, you can also do a roux with this trick. Heat butter as usual until it runs dry and then use the starch mixed with water instead of flour and add milk or cream and then season with pepper, salt and nutmeg.

However, this is not recommended with normal sauce binder!
