Ostfriesische Neujahrskuchen - Krullkuchen

You need a special "croissant iron" to make these wafer-thin waffles. For the waffles, dissolve 1 pound of candy in 3/4 liter of hot water. Melt 1/2 pound of butter in it and let it cool down. Add 1 pound of flour, 5 grams of anise (or alternatively 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon) and 2 eggs, leave the dough for at least two hours or better overnight, then add 1 tbsp of dough to the croissant iron and bake in succession. Form immediately into bags or roll over a round wood, the waffles quickly become hard when cooled and can then no longer be formed!
