Pearl onions in garlic balsamic vinegar

I like to try at home what I discover in supermarkets and this time it had to be pickled onions.

Pickled delicacies are completely overpriced, because you have the basic ingredients mostly in the house and can thus almost all delicacies cheap easily made by yourself.

So also these pearl onions in spicy garlic-balsamic vinegar

I bought a bag of pearl onions at 99 cents at the discounter and this amount resulted in 2 glasses (see photo 2) of pickled onions.

That alone should convince, just try something that you would like to eat but do not want to buy.

The work steps:

First, the pearl onions are peeled.

From the following ingredients, a brew is made, which should meet by tasting their own taste. I can not give exact details, because I taste so long, until I would taste the broth to a crisp salad. ;O)

I have the pot size and the onion amount accordingly

  • 1/2 L of water
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 sprigs of rosemary
  • 2 sprigs of thyme (1 tsp. For dried herbs)
  • some peppercorns (fresh or pounded in a mortar)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • about 150 g sugar or sugar substitute
  • as well as a little honey

put on and bring to a boil.

Now add the onions and cook / simmer for about 10 minutes.

Fill the onions and broth into clean glasses and seal well.

After about 2 weeks, the onions have accepted the full aroma of garlic and spices and can be eaten.

Highly recommended to the cheese plate, on the buffet, to grilled or as a side dish for dinner.
