Piece / extend (glue) films
If the film does not have the required length, you have to piece it somehow, i. glue a new piece next to it. Most of them will cut a new piece at a right angle for this purpose and glue next to the given end.
Here's a hint if the foil has a decorative pattern (and you do not want to break it when lengthening):
The ends should not be pushed together at right angles, because here the pattern would be roughly interrupted and thus only become more visible, but with the cut in approximately the printed pattern follow.
This can be done at z. B. Wood grains with a kind of zigzag pattern, as a cut at an oblique angle or as in my case (visible in the photos) done by a wavy cut.
It does not matter which form the required cut has: Both parts - the one to be extended and the one to be added later - have to be exactly mirror-like in their interlocking form.
So a kind of cut I explain below and have named the two foil end pieces:
The original with A to be pasted with D (the backing paper will be removed later, just before the actual bonding).
- Lay one part of such length on the other part, so that you can do the cut on this double surface.
- Cut (if possible, with a rotary cutter) in the desired shape ... through both parts.
- Then separate the pieces along the cut line / separate them from each other: from the above (here white) part you have cut away a piece (here named A) - as well from the lower (red) part (here named B) ).
- Remove parts A and B from C and D, i. Set A and B aside.
- Finally, move parts C and D together: You can see that they have exactly the same shape as each other. Parts C and D are the parts with which you continue to work: So, as they are now in front of you, they are glued to each other / against each other!
One sees: The wider the cut parts are supposed to intermesh, the more the two parts have to be laid one above the other before cutting. So you have to calculate a little waste before buying. Parts A and B are always "leftovers"
