Practical home help: Dirt eraser or magic sponge

A very practical domestic help is the so-called Schmutzradierer or magic sponge. He can simply "erase" stubborn stains and soiling. The experienced "moms" know him for sure, but certainly not every newbie:

At some point I bought some in the drugstore, because I wanted to try out myself, if they are really as good as they say. And indeed, I do not want to miss my dirt eraser anymore and always have a whole pack of it in stock. It is a foamed sponge made of melamine resin. When rubbed on the surface that you want to clean, the resin particles dissolve together with the dirt particles and can then be easily absorbed with a wet cloth. It works like a sponge and over time.

What he is good at and what he can use:

  • For textiles and leather, for example, you can clean the white rubber sides of the soles on chucks and other sneakers very well. Also possibly Sohlenabrieb on leather furniture can be treated well.
  • Coffee and tea borders, red wine stains, ballpoint pens, crayon stains
  • For grease and lime stains, for example on baking trays, work surfaces, stainless steel sinks, extractor hoods made of stainless steel, glass shower walls, etc.
  • For surfaces to be sealed afterwards
  • For abrasion of shoes etc. on wooden floors
  • For superficial dirt on walls and ceilings in the house (my husband, for example, the blanket over the fridge gently rubbed dry with it and thus the painting and at least a year can push backwards).

What he is not so good at and where to pay attention:

  • For all glossy surfaces you should try the dirt eraser hidden if you want to use it at all.
  • On rough surfaces, the dirt erosion consumes quickly, as for example in a grill with strong, burnt encrustations, which are simply harder than the sponge.
  • There are plastics in different hardness levels. Those who easily scratch, I would not treat.

Tips:

  1. In any case, you should wet it or moisten it, then it slides on the wet film and does not rub. As already mentioned, the dirt eroder consumes over time and / or becomes unsightly. To save money, you can simply cut it in half before use with a pair of household scissors.
  2. You can buy the Schmutzradierer quite cheap online or in a drugstore. I always buy my dm, 4 big for 2 euros something that I still halve or quarter.

The dirt eraser is a good help for me in the household, even if it is not suitable for everything. But who or what is that ;-)? So, and what do you clean with the dirt eraser?
