Protect baby from hard edges

My grandson, almost 9 months, is just discovering his surroundings. There are shelves in the kitchen at his head. If he crawls and straightens, he already has painful contact with the hard edge made.

In order to protect the baby from it, my son had the following idea: In the hardware store he bought tailor-made insulation tubes for heating pipes made of an elastic material. He cut these tubes lengthwise, pulled them over the front edge of the shelf and taped them in several places. Now it does not hurt so much when the head bumps into it.

For other hard corners and edges, the young parents have bought a kind of shock absorbers, ie rubber discs that stick themselves. They are especially for this purpose.
