Recycle old boots
One can e.g. For smooth leather boots cut off the lower part (which encloses the leg) so that leggings are created. You can easily wear them over same-colored shoes and the whole looks like a boot.
Of course, these "boots" are not quite as chic as new shoes, but reuse is well suited if, for example, Boots for a costume are needed in a play, in the Carnival (for example Pirate or Musketeer) or as a suitable garment for medieval markets or in Liverollenspiel.
From the smooth leather of boots one can make other things, e.g. small leather pouches or one uses the remainders for patchwork works of leather.
