Remove adhesive tape residues on wall paint

Sticky tape, especially brown packing tape, leaves very ugly remains on plain, white-painted walls. Everything in this apartment used to be littered with everything because the previous tenants had pasted all wall and ceiling surfaces with posters. After some testing, I came up with the following solution, with which I probably removed about a hundred tape spots:

Put some scouring agent (powder or milk) on a damp ball of steel wool; best is the looped, with not so many scratchy ends sticking out. Please do not use AKO pads that leave green dye! Now wrap the steel wool in a damp sponge cloth or other absorbent cloth so that it looks out the front, so just hold the steel wool with the cloth. So that the stains rub off carefully but with enough pressure.

How does it work? Steel wool and abrasives remove the adhesive tape residues, the cloth immediately absorbs the resulting brown-gray liquid and also polishes the surface. If you use the steel wool without a cloth, scratches remain and the dirt leaves stains - with cloth everything is in butter.
