Remove odors from screw caps

I like to use screw jars of e.g. Vegetables, jam, etc. for my purposes.

In the past I often had to dispose of beautiful glasses with a heavy heart because the smell (for example of pickled peppers or even pickled vegetables) simply could not be removed. The glass was wonderfully clean, but the lid still smelled.

Now I fill the lid with coffee grounds:

Simply spread in it, let stand overnight, the next day (if discoloration in the lid are present) something with the coffee grounds "rubbing" (like a scrub) and then rinse under the tap.

If anything, the lid now smells only minimally of coffee and that disappears very quickly. So far, this has driven out any unwanted lid odor.

(Apparently, coffee grounds for the water pipes is not so optimal.) However, the amount used here is so small (about 1 tablespoon) and you do it only maybe every few weeks, so far, the risk for the lines is very limited.

If you want to be on the safe side, you can empty the lid over the trashcan the next morning and then rinse briefly under water.)
