Remove stubborn labels from glasses
Persistent labels of glasses can be removed as follows:
- Fill the glass with water (if possible one or two mm above the top edge of the etch to be removed.
- Glass! UNLOCKED! Put in the microwave and bring the water in the glass at full power to a boil. This can take between 3 to 11 minutes or more, depending on the amount of water.
- Remove the glass from the microwave (do not forget the oven cloths) and screw on the lid.
- Leave hot water on the glue for 3 minutes.
- Label Slowly try to peel off.
- Possibly. Wipe off any remaining adhesive with a kitchen cloth soaked in methylated spirit from the still warm glass.
- Open the glass and throw away the water.
Unfortunately, this solution is only suitable for removing labels that have been attached with tough, non-water-soluble adhesive.
Compared with the foehn and / or oven method (which I also used in the past), I see the advantage of this method in its effectiveness: less power consumption, with concentration of the energy used on the glass, not on the space surrounding the glass.
Less time in most cases.
