Repot plants
When repotting should yes the holes in the bottom of the pot with potsherds or similar. cover so that not all the earth is flushed out while pouring again. I also used expanded clay for that. But you do not always have both at hand. I came up with a much simpler idea a few years ago: I take some discarded piece of cloth, cut off a piece and place it in the flower pot before potting the plant. This serves its purpose at least as well as the potsherds.
