Save space in the cooler

Cooling packs for the cooling bag can be replaced to save space.

Every family has the problem of meeting the physical needs of family members while traveling, before traveling in the summer. Not every thirsty of the children wants to take a break in a rest stop, because that not only costs time, but also goes into the money.

So you take along provisions, the small or large hunger and Durstattacken quenches. In a cool bag, it is often very crowded, at the end of the problem usually remains, where the cooling battery should still find space, often even a battery is not enough.

The solution:

Be sure to refrigerate drinks that are to be kept cool in the cooler bag before driving off and use them as cooling batteries. This is only with drinks that are not filled in glass bottles, because they would burst during freezing. I have had good experience with orange, grapefruit and multivitamin juice in a tetra pack.

On the other hand, I cool the water bottles in the fridge before I repack them in the cooler before starting my journey. So, for the first hours of driving, I have cool water against the thirst of the family, at the first picnic, the juice is already thawed and is suitable for a spritzer with water. While driving, the "juice batteries" also cool the food in my cooler bag.

For the return from the holidays you can ask in private pension or hotel without minibar in the room to put the juice packs in the freezer one night before departure. In my experience even a 5 star hotel does not refuse this request, they are presented with a brief explanation. Apartments usually have freezer options anyway.

During several days of driving, during which the juice batteries are thawed or emptied (even cold packs would have thawed), I go to gas stations / in supermarkets ice cubes or crash ice, pack in dense plastic bags, so I get no flood in the cooler, and replace the emptied juice packs in the cooler bag. Although it costs a little money, it is still cheaper than heat-stained food.
