Shorten dirty double roller blind (Duorollo)
The Klemmfix double roller blind in my kitchen is quite dirty after about 3 years and also slightly frayed at the edge by pulling up the roller blind on the chain hoist.
Dirty is the blind on the one hand by almost permanent tilting of the window, on the other by cooking fumes and apparently also splashes (the window is in the immediate vicinity of the hearth). From a distance, it still seemed quite appealing; on closer inspection, it was just dingy and no longer bright white.
At first the plan was to clean the roller blind in the shower / tub. Since the blind was only ever pulled down, but was more than half rolled up, unused and therefore clean on the roll. I decided to simply cut off the soiled part of the blind.
The process:
- First, the metal bar (the weight) lying loosely in the double blind is removed.
- The roller blind itself, which is merely clamped on the window holder, is taken out. From this moment on, it is no longer a double blind, but shows in its (simple) total length of? in my case ? over 3 meters. One can now recognize the dirty part very well compared to the unused part.
- This can now be cut off. Of course, you first have to check how long the roller blind should be in the final result, that is double placed, later on the window and how much can be cut off. It should always be noted that you have to take the length times 2, because it is a double blind (you have to hit it again).
- In the upper part of the fixed plastic rail is a narrow elastic rod to which the blind is attached. It can be easily pulled out with the roller blind.
- From this pole, the roller blind must now be removed.
- The new piece is then stapled to this plastic rod. This is very easy with a normal office stapler for paper.
- The new piece of blind is hit twice around the thin plastic strip and stapled to it.
- This is then pushed back into the device, which is then clamped at the window.
- Only insert the brackets on the right and left, which make the blind a double blind and ready!
It may sound complicated in theory; but who owns such a roller blind and knows how it is appropriate, has an idea of the described steps. Once you remove the double blind from the window holder, the work steps explain themselves.
At the window it appears as a double blind, after removing the right and left plugged mounts it is just a long piece of woven polyester and can be easily shortened.
If the chosen length is of course completely needed, I recommend a cleaning in tub or shower. I would recommend Waschpulverlauge. I do not need the total length, so trimming was the easiest solution.
