Shorten pants

Often shorten the pants, the hem separated, the cut off too much and then sewed the hem again.

It can happen that due to oblique cutting, the new hem edge is not pretty straight.

Here are my tips:

In general, when cutting and staking, the expected to wear shoes (it is about the heel!).

A newly purchased pants, first enter a few days at home, so formed in the knee area so-called gussets, which automatically reduce the length of the pants.

For fabrics that are to be sewn, check that they are still shrinking after washing.

Then you can start:

Shortened hem (let!) - this only on the back over the heel - the front length automatically adjusts here! If possible, have a friend (she is standing about 4 m away) look at the back length on both legs and compare: Not infrequently, we stand crooked and one pant leg must be shorter than the other! Possibly. correct.

Position pins in such a way that you can now separate the hem all around and pull out all the threads.

Turn the trousers to the left and leave until the very last ironing.

Next you go on a sleeve board that I put on the ironing board:

Pull over the pant leg as far as possible: Before (!!) cutting off too much fabric, iron the new hem edge (if the fabric starts to shine here due to the heat, that will not hurt).

Still on the cuff board: Now take the old fabric edge as a guide and cut off the excess fabric parallel to it (!). So the new edge of the fabric is perfectly straight!

Then put the hem, stuck vertically and quilting: For thick fabrics, before a seam sample, sew on the cut fabric residue: voices stitch length, thread color and needle size?

In sewing machine shops, there is a long time to buy the thick curry-colored yarn that is used in many jeans as an upper thread. So no one later sees that we were at work with our sewing skills!

Finally, press the finished hem from the left side of the fabric under strong pressure, if necessary with a damp cloth again from the right!

Slip in and show!
