Shorten the rear length of a hood

The hood of my thin summer rain jacket can only be changed in the front width, but not in the back length: With each carrying she slid very deep in the face, and I was forever pushing back.

Remedy I managed as follows:

I put on my jacket, closed it to my chin, put on my hood and laced it up as if prepared for the coming Baltic holiday rain breeze. Then I made a cross fold at the back of the head and stuck it roughly from the right = outer fabric with paper clips - mindful of the fact that with every sewing machine stitch the sewing needle, when staking but also a pin irreversibly small holes in the hitherto breathable and waterproof material would beat , To sew the fold from the right side to the outside was therefore not an option, because the holes would then have direct contact with rain. Therefore, I re-formed this initially coarsely laid fold again, but from the inside (from the lining side).

Prior to the actual sewing, I checked the length = width of the seam and also checked if the hood was not in use (when hanging loosely over the neck), the new seam is not visible. After sewing, I dared to iron this new seam from the right under a cloth, with the seam allowances pointing up towards the center of the head, so that the rain at least drips down.

As can be seen in the photos, the hood, viewed from the side, was finally given a permanent, head-friendly look by this new seam. Shape!

For (also thicker, firmer) rain / outdoor jackets above mentioned sewing of course omitted, because these jackets almost always have an adjustable in length hood, which must defy in autumn / winter much more often the wet ...

Two more hints:

For sewing the delicate upper, I used so-called Microtex needles, which have a particularly sharp, pointed tip. They are available in the sizes 60-80, their pistons are marked violet. Microtex needles are easier to penetrate into fine tissues and leave an optimally small hole in the fabric. Microtex needles are ideally suited for silk, foils, microfiber, all coated materials and climate membranes. After sewing, the seam can also be sealed with a special adhesive film. This spray is obtained i.a. at the internet company? funfabric ?.

Have fun imitating and trying!
