Simply clean up started stainless steel cutlery
We were clearing out our medicine cabinet when we noticed a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide in our hands. We bought that for wound cleansing but did not use it.
I wondered what else could be done with it. Since I had some ideas and researched a bit on the Internet. In addition, there was also our stainless steel cutlery. This was already a bit getting old, but still in good condition, but also partly tarnished / discolored.
Pictures 2 + 3 show cutlery with discoloration. All other pictures were taken after cleaning. Unfortunately, it does not look as good as it got clean, but it worked really well.
Tip:
- Fill hydrogen peroxide 3% into a spray bottle (I used a funnel for that).
- Put cutlery in a bowl or other container.
- Spray the cutlery well from all sides with the hydrogen peroxide 3%, wait 3-5 minutes and allow to work, then polish with a soft cloth. It was seen directly on the cloth, as the deposits went off. For stronger discolorations, just leave the whole thing to work for a little longer.
If you do not want to get hydrogen peroxide on your skin, you can put on gloves, but it's not really necessary with a 3% solution. It must not come in contact with mucous membranes and eyes.
Originally I had read that hydrogen peroxide is particularly suitable for cleaning old silverware.
Only marginally, because I found it very interesting, hydrogen peroxide (here the concentration can be higher) is very versatile:
Examples:
Hydrogen peroxide was introduced about 130 years ago in therapy. It was discovered about 180 years ago.
- It disinfects, kills germs, bacteria, viruses and can also be used in the household for cleaning.
- In the hospital it is u.a. also used for wound healing (antiseptic) and it is used in dentistry.
- It can be used as a bleaching agent, it works well against mildew, and so on. when bleaching and dyeing hair for use.
- There are good informative books about it, but there is also a lot of interesting information about it on the internet, I found it all quite exciting. Originally, I only knew hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) from the hospital.
- Hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) can be obtained relatively cheaply in pharmacies.
I think I will use it in the future increasingly for cleaning and read me more.
