Slugs fight with melon

A few days ago I forgot a larger piece of melon peel in the garden. It was lying on the lawn at night. In the morning there were about 20 red snails on it. Great, so I could dispose of them immediately. I do that often now, works fine. They are properly attracted and avoid the other plants. The basil remains spared now.

By chance, I'm just discovering your comment and can not really agree with you. In principle, I agree with you, as far as the local snails are concerned, as they are also a source of food for many of our native animals. But....
... for some time now our country has been overrun by the "Spanish slug". This immigrant displaces the native snails, is extremely voracious and has NO natural predators. Their existence here hedgehogs, crawlers, thrushes and Co. a natural food source.
