So new towels are absorbent
A freshly bought towel is full of finish and it takes quite a few washes until it has disappeared and the towel dries just as well as an old one.
One can accelerate this process: Put the new towel in a bucket with cold water to which a cup of vinegar and half a cup of salt have been added before washing for the first time.
Leave this bucket overnight and then wash the towel in the washing machine with detergent the next day.
After drying the towel, it is absorbent and ready to scrub!
