Soda as a fabric softener

Fabric softener does not have to be expensive. Instead of fragrant, ecologically questionable bulk packs, soda can simply be used. It has the same effect, but is a cheaper and ecologically sound alternative.

Sodium or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) is anyway part of washing powder. With hard water or heavy soiling you can therefore use more of them. This not only makes the laundry cleaner and softer, it also cleans the washing machine by the way.

For particularly hard water, dissolve three to four heaped tablespoons of soda (Kaiser soda or baking soda) in 100 ml of water and place in the fabric softener compartment. If you want to go fast, the soda can also be added directly to the detergent. But not only soda softens the laundry. Alternatively, you can also dissolve the same amount of soda in 100 ml of water and use as a fabric softener. The soda and soda prevent the settling of lime in the fibers and this makes the laundry softer. Soda has another positive effect. It neutralizes bad smells in the laundry and in the washing machine.
