Start the rum pot

Now think of Christmas: start rum pot!

Now is the time to put on a rum pot, which can be given away as a gift from the kitchen, beautifully wrapped in glasses.

Season after season is added every month, and at the end of the year you have a delicacy that makes something special out of a simple vanilla pudding and also a welcome addition to baking.

Muffins, for example, with some rum fruits, are a dream for adult connoisseurs and after a winter walk, a spoonful of rum pot in tea heats the body properly.

A traditional Rumtopfgefäß is not mandatory, it can also be used a large glass. It is important that the vessel was washed out with boiling vinegar water, whereby it is impossible to touch it from the inside with your fingers.

As with preserving, cleanliness is a top priority and guarantees shelf life.

It starts with strawberries:

preparation

  1. Entstielt, washed and spotted dry, they are given with 500 g of sugar in a bowl. Leave to cool in the fridge for about 1 hour.
  2. The strawberries are then added to the jar with a vanilla bar and covered with enough rum to stand about 1 cm above the fruit.
  3. I cover the vessel with Einmachpapier from, cling film is synonymous but. For the first few days, always stir with a wooden spoon.
  4. In the course of the year, the fruits of the season are then added to each, on 500 g of fruit is about 250 g of sugar.

All fruits are suitable:

Cherries, apricots, mirabelles, peaches, raspberries, blueberries, pears, pineapples and even dried fruits that are no longer used in the kitchen (in my case, the plums are usually left over from the dried fruit mixtures).

It is important that the fruits are handled very carefully and that only perfect fruit gets into the rum pot to prevent mold growth.

The rum (I use 54% rum) is given to the fruit in such a way that it always 1-2 cm above the
Fruits stands.

Vanilla or cinnamon sticks give the whole thing extra flavor.

  • At Christmas, I fill the rum pot in small glasses, hang a bag of custard for cooking, a fir branch and a cinnamon stick to the glass and thus always have a nice little something for neighbors and dear friends.

(Fir branch and Christmas decoration are missing on the picture, as this decoration in the basement stores up to the Advent season and we all wait more for the summer than on fir green and bell sound ;-)
