Stop hiccup

Prevent the ingestion of irritation.

Hiccup is a jerky contraction of the diaphragm, causing a sudden negative pressure in the lungs (cause is a stimulus of the vagus nerve). When the throat is open, jerky air is drawn in, which produces the funny HICKS noise :-).

In order to free the diaphragm from hiccups with a counter-irritant, one squats down with his knees closed and grasps his knees as tightly as possible with his arms. The compressed stomach now presses down on the diaphragm (and suppresses the stimulus), so that it is difficult to breathe.

Just wait - the hiccup usually disappears within a minute.
