Stress in addressing - what helps?

A speech at dad's birthday, a wedding speech or the anniversary of the company. Raging palpitations, trembling hands, nearing fainting. But all good speakers have started small. How to counteract the stress, this tip shows:

A few Tipps

  • Tap paper with bullet points or the whole speech and print in large font. The line spacing should also be large.
  • Start slowly. Take a deep breath through your nose. Quiet exhale, with very slightly opened lips but no noise.
  • Make eye contact. Familiar, but not too long. Maximum 10 seconds. ----- Or: look over the heads of the wall. Or: to look through two people
  • Look at the note and cover the sentences that were said. Look up again and again and look around.
  • In free speech, gently insert your hands and then put them together slightly in front of your stomach. (do not fold). That gives hold.
  • Breathe calmly and evenly.
  • Take breaks! Do not worry, the audience likes it.
  • At the end, a big thank you!
