Tyvek - the magic material for many hobbies

Please excuse the long text, but I'm so excited about this material that I found it hard to be brief. Almost every one of you is Tyvek ® (pronounced Teiweck), e.g. from television films through its use as disposable protective work clothing known (the well-known overalls of the Kriminaltechniker).

Tyvek is a lightweight white fleece that is extremely tough, extremely tear-resistant and significantly lighter than materials of similar strength. It is waterproof, breathable, permeable to water vapor and does not rustle. The soft Tyvek has textile-like character and feels like solid Japanese paper. Tyvek is almost endlessly foldable and unfoldable, resistant to abrasion and antistatic. In contrast to paper, it is very weather-resistant and therefore suitable for outdoor use. It can be washed in the washing machine (runs easily at the first wash: gentle wash - 30 degrees). Tyvek remains flexible even in cold weather.

Application:

  1. Tyvek can be printed with all classic methods. It can be used for room dividers, as kite paper or for the production of sea, land and air maps, ID cards, manuals, start numbers as well as labels and tags. Tyvek is unfortunately not suitable for the photocopier or the hot laser printer.
  2. Tyvek can be sewn easily with the sewing machine (normal needle, normal sewing thread)! This opens up a great deal of creative space for many of us: if I can not accurately implement a pattern, I use Tyvek to try it out, because I fold it at will, unfold it, and sometimes even just with pins or paper clips to approximate shape and even can try on. Since Tyvek, unlike conventional fabric is a little stiff, I can bend it before hand cutting by hand in the form, possibly glue and I create a spatial idea of the final product, without having to cut the fabric that would have too little stability anyway , If I am not sure when later sewing the pieces together, I can pencil my Tyvektile and thus have a better idea of the big picture and can arrange the parts in different ways quickly. Used Tyvekabschnitte keep and can later use them again and again for something else.
  3. When patching e.g. You can use Tyvek by painting small details, cutting them out and placing them on the substrate. So you can easily get an overall impression, move the parts if necessary in the arrangement ... Here are a lot of things come to mind!
  4. Preschool / schoolchildren can paint on Tyvek, cut it with scissors and / or cutters (does not fray) and glue them with contact or spray adhesives! It can be punched, perforated, stapled and stapled. Tyvek can be laminated together with self-adhesive films, which also gives enough space for creativity! Since Tyvek does not burn, but melts at more than 118 degrees, you can iron it wonderfully under baking paper ...

If you are familiar with the English language, you will find a lot of inspiration at pinterest, how and how Tyvek can be handled.

Google for purchase:

On the Internet, the range of products ranges from different strengths and sections to pieces by the meter. Maybe you want to team up with a neighbor / girlfriend and order Tyvek as a roll product. So you are much more flexible in terms of its use and have significantly fewer leftovers. Depending on where you live, you can also ask in dragon shops and ship's suppliers.

Hope you are not too exhausted, but the more you get the taste!
