Wantans from the Chinese kitchen versatile

In Asia supermarket, there are the small square dough plates, the so-called Wontons, We know them from the Chinese restaurant as stuffed dumplings in the Wantan soup. But you can prepare other delicious things from it.

Miraculously, they do not stick together in the pack. They are wafer-thin and great for pastries with a filling. Sweet or salty.

Place the plates side by side and put a dollop of jam in the middle, or a piece of apple with almonds and a few raisins. Then coat the edge with white, fold, press and bake either in the oven at 175 degrees for about a quarter of an hour or fry in hot oil. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve for coffee.

Another filling would be spring onions and minced crab, or minced meat seasoned with chilli and tomato paste.

I like to use them as a sort of lasagna leaves, which I layer by layer into the depressions of a muffin mold. In between a sugo made of hack and tomato sauce, spicy. On top of thick grated cheese and cream.

Bake in the oven and bake for 20 minutes. If you lay out the muffin molds with paper cups, it is easy to get out the finished mini noodle tartlets.

Your ingenuity knows no bounds!

The remaining Wantan plates come in a freezer bag and are put back into the cooling. A really good stock item when guests suddenly come, or when they crave for a late-night snack.
