Warm beetroot vegetables

As soon as beet is on the market in autumn, I buy large quantities and freeze them in portions. So I quickly have a delicious vegetables on the table.

Ingredients for 4 servings

  • 800-1000 g beetroot (fresh)
  • 60 g of lard
  • 1-2 onions
  • 1-2 apples
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3-4 cloves all over
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 250 ml of red wine

preparation

  1. Wash beetroot, peel thinly and grate on the raw vegetables.
  2. Sauté in hot lard with a small diced onion.
  3. Only free the second onion from the outer shell and spice it with the cloves.
  4. Add together with the peeled, pitted and coarsely cut apples and the spices to the vegetables and stir. Cook over moderate heat for 30-40 minutes.
  5. Season with red wine, dust with flour and boil again briefly.

Serve with potatoes or potato dumplings with bratwurst, meatballs or roast.

(These vegetables are also safe for children to eat, as the alcohol in the red wine is overcooked, but anyone who has any concerns can replace the red wine with red grape juice, but then leaves the sugar).
