Wash Tempur pillows and dry
Ask Papi: Since there are mainly ominous conjectures circulating on the Internet about cleaning viscoelastic foams (Tempur), I have decided to announce my experience here. My pillow smelled really bad and the cleaning of the cover alone did not help anymore.
So before I buy a new one I just tried to clean / wash it, although the manufacturer forbids it. So my guide is without any guarantee!
- Soaking in a tub of lukewarm lye water. I have used mild detergent and antibacterial additive. You need a lot of water, because the pillow sucks properly full and it does not give it off so much.
- Now comes the trick, how to get the water out again in large parts: Take two wooden boards, grab the cushion without relation in between and drive on it with the car.
- Rinse 2-3 times with the squeezing rope. Possibly. last time wrap in dry towels, which then absorb the water better again and then run over again.
- Dry for 2 days (not in the dryer).
The pillow is still wet, but you can sleep on it. You will notice that it is much softer at first. After a few days, the last part of the water evaporates and the pillow will be just as hard as before.
