Wash Tempur pillows and dry

Ask Papi: Since there are mainly ominous conjectures circulating on the Internet about cleaning viscoelastic foams (Tempur), I have decided to announce my experience here. My pillow smelled really bad and the cleaning of the cover alone did not help anymore.

So before I buy a new one I just tried to clean / wash it, although the manufacturer forbids it. So my guide is without any guarantee!

  1. Soaking in a tub of lukewarm lye water. I have used mild detergent and antibacterial additive. You need a lot of water, because the pillow sucks properly full and it does not give it off so much.
  2. Now comes the trick, how to get the water out again in large parts: Take two wooden boards, grab the cushion without relation in between and drive on it with the car.
  3. Rinse 2-3 times with the squeezing rope. Possibly. last time wrap in dry towels, which then absorb the water better again and then run over again.
  4. Dry for 2 days (not in the dryer).

The pillow is still wet, but you can sleep on it. You will notice that it is much softer at first. After a few days, the last part of the water evaporates and the pillow will be just as hard as before.
