Washing machine stinks because drain hose dirty

Here are some tips on how to clean the inside of the washing machine properly. If this has already happened several times and the machine continues to stink, it is probably due to the drain hose.

In a washing machine with removable drain hose you have it relatively easy. Unscrew it from the machine and release it from the connection to the siphon. Then you hang both ends of the tube at the same height next to each other and fill the tube with lemon juice concentrate (Citrovin) and let this act for at least 30 minutes. By kneading the hose and passing through the hose with a 120 cm long radiator brush or a 200 cm long aquarium brush from both ends, you can mechanically clean the hose. Then you can rinse the dirt out of the hose.

With one, firmly attached to the washing machine drain hose, the whole thing is a bit more expensive. Here I have removed the end of the hose from the siphon and fixed with cable ties to the faucet (see picture). Then also fill with lemon juice concentrate and leave for 30 minutes. For mechanical cleaning, I have the o. G. Radiator brush used 120 cm. Herewith I have additionally mechanically cleaned the first 120 cm of the hose after the action. In addition, I kneaded the hose several times. When this was done, I let the machine run empty with 0.5 liter of lemon juice concentrate at 90 ° C once, with the tube in the sink to see if anything came out. Here, the large deposits on the picture were then rinsed out of the hose. Then I set the machine twice more on extra rinsing and pumping. Until only small particles came.

For the next application I will buy a 2 meter aquarium brush. This can then clean the hose on almost the entire length. But I would hold it next to the hose and then 5 cm shorter than mark the drain hose. This ensures that one does not encounter against possibly in the machine possibly located drain valves.
