Dog tags: Protected and rattle free

My dog wears three dog tags, a tax stamp, a tassel brand and an address tag. I first attached them to a leash because my dog is not allowed in front of the leash anyway, but I had to let an official of the public office tell me that the tax stamp had to be worn directly on the collar.

The constant rattling of the metal tags with each dog movement is simply annoying, so I sewed a small bag made of synthetic leather, in which the brands are protected and rattle-free housed.

For this I have measured the diameter of the largest dog tag, this measure determines the finished width of the bag. From the imitation leather (you can also take other material, such as denim from an old pair of jeans) I cut a strip that is 1cm wider (seam allowance) than the diameter of the biggest dog tag. The length of the strip is almost three times the diameter of the largest dog tag.

The strip of fabric must be skirted on the narrow sides, with artificial leather you can save the skirting. Then place the strip so that at the bottom of a pocket of the height of the brand diameter is formed, and tap along the long edges with a wide and dense zigzag stitch the double layer together.

In a cloth bag, you tap the edges of the subsequent simple layer of fabric through to the upper hem, with artificial leather, it is not necessary. So a bag was created with a rollover. In the upper kink of the rollover, I have incorporated a small buttonhole, through which the eyelets of the dog tags are pushed from the inside out and outside threaded into a key ring, which is attached to the collar. The bag can now be closed with (punching) push button, sewed on button and loop, Velcro or two sewn tie ribbons.
