Comparison knitting needle strength KnitPro Symfonie and Cubics

Since I start again a knitting project and would like to change to the angular "Cubics" needle tips of KnitPro, I remembered again that they are indeed in the extent a little smaller in the needle size than the round "Symfonie" knitting needles.

To explain: With the round (= normal) knitting needles and also needle points the needle strength designates the diameter the needle - in the square shaped (= square in cross section) Cubic means the specified needle thickness the length of the diagonal of the square. Taking this into account, the circumference of the circle is always a little larger than the circumference of the corresponding square.

Now I finally wanted to calculate which needle size of the Cubics needle points corresponds to the conventional round knitting needle ("Symfonie"). That's why I have created a table that shows the difference between the two types of needles - so it is not necessary to constantly try and / or think:

KnitPro Symfonie & Cubis in comparison:

  • Symphony (round) strength 3 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) Strength 2.7 - Rounded 2.5 (in this strength, no needle tips are produced, but finished Cubics circular needles.) The smallest strength in the Cubics needle tips is generally only 4. This is certainly due to the fact that due to the screw connection between tip and rope certain needle size must be given, so here a stiffness can be obtained ...)
  • Symfonie (round) strength 3,5 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) Strength 3.1 - rounded 3 (so only as a ready-made Cubics circular needle to buy)
  • Symphony (round) strength 4 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) thickness 3.6 - rounded 3,5 (also only as a ready-made Cubics circular needle to buy)
  • Symfonie (round) strength 4,5 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) Strength 4 (is at the needle tips the least starch to buy!)
  • Symphony (round) strength 5 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) Strength 4,5
  • Symfonie (round) strength 5.5 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) strength 5
  • Symfonie (round) strength 6 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) Strength 5.4 - rounded to 5.5
  • Symfonie (round) strength 6.5 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) strength 5.6 - rounded 6
  • Symphony (round) Strength 7 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) strength 6.3 - rounded to 6.5
  • Symphony (round) Strength 8 corresponds to the Cubics (angular) Strength 7.2 - rounded 7

Certainly, this tip is only for knit lovers and fans of Cubics, but at least for these! Maybe copy and put to the cubics ...

A nice week with a lot of knitting without a headache :-)
