Make the hard drive illegible when it is discarded
Data protection is on everyone's lips - we had accumulated five unusable hard drives and I did not want then that on the recycling center any dark channel opens and someone accesses our data.
Since I did not have a program that overrides everything with a random generator and the old PCs could not even be started in some cases to nullify everything with zeros, we preferred to resort to a martial-craft solution (see picture).
Four hard disks could be unscrewed well and destroyed by hammer - one persisted (even clamping into a vise led only to screaming bouts in the executing persons - although only the hard disks were clamped ...)
Here was the drill with metal drill used - and bye!
