Save energy during laundry

Most washing machines have "speed perfect" settings? and? eco Perfect ?. In an advisory program, an expert recommended that if possible the setting "eco-Perfect"? should choose to save energy, although the washing program then takes a little longer.

I could not really imagine that, but tested it at the next wash. Since I already own such a electricity cost meter and thus measure the power consumption more often, I could make the comparison and was surprised that this is indeed the case. Of course, the savings are different for the various washing programs.

Just one example: In a 60 degree wash I used 0.4 kWh (kilowatt hour) less and the duration was only 18 minutes more. In that case I saved at least 15 cents with the laundry. That's not very much, but on the number of washes per year is then quite a lot together.
