If there are just a few empty flowerpots left and you are in the kitchen cleaning vegetables (leeks, the hairy end), it is worth trying to plant these remnants of leek roots.
First, put only a small amount of soil in the pot and insert the roots so that the top piece still looks good. When the plant has gained a few inches, continue to pile up soil.
