Orchids - favorable small climate through window shells

Orchids need a higher humidity than is offered in most homes (especially in winter). I've been cultivating my orchids on homemade windowsills for years, and they're growing to be pure joy.

Buy a plastic coaster for flower boxes in the desired size, put on the window sill and fill with coarse-grained expanded clay. The flower heads of the orchids can be placed directly on the expanded clay layer.

The bowl is then filled with water, which absorbs the expanded clay and evaporates well through the enlarged surface. I take decalcified water from the water filter so that there are no limestone edges. After 2-3 years I replace the expanded clay with fresh ones.

Because of the increased humidity in the orchid window, my plants need only a little water to be poured, I only dip them every 2 weeks for a few minutes.
