Water tap dripping - repair instructions
Pop, pop, pop, a soft but annoying sound that alerts us to a dripping tap.
Since a dripping tap is also an unnecessary waste of water and money, we should respond. But how?
How to fix a dripping tap quickly & easily:
- Stop water supply, by closing the angle valve, which is located below the basin. If there are two angle valves, both must be turned off.
Note: If the dripping tap is in the shower or in the bathtub, the central shut-off valve must be closed for the entire apartment. This is usually found in the bathroom. - Release pressure, by turning the faucet a bit.
- Remove the twist grip. Depending on the faucet model, screw it on either by simply pulling it or using a pair of pipe wrenches (protect the rotary handle with a piece of cloth before scratching it).
- Release the valve. At the top, the valve is provided with a hexagon. Use a suitable wrench or pipe wrench to loosen this counterclockwise. Now the valve can be easily turned out by hand.
- Check valve. At the bottom is the seal, which is fastened by means of a nut on a metal disc. Loosen the nut and lift the seal out of its metal bed using a small screwdriver. If the back of the seal is smooth, it can simply be turned over for now. Otherwise, a new must be obtained in the hardware store.
- Reassemble the faucet. Repeat all steps in reverse order.
Now turn on the faucet, check the result and congratulate yourself on a successful repair!
