Apple strainer cake without yeast
The traditional Rhenish apple pie cake is made with yeast dough. It also tastes very good with a short crust pastry and can also be prepared longer.
For the dough you need:
140 g of butter
50 g of sugar
1 egg
1/2 packet of baking powder
250 g flour
a bit of salt
From the ingredients you prepare a short crust pastry and let it rest a bit cool.
Then you cook an apple compote. For this one needs:
5 apples
2 tbsp sugar
a little cinnamon
1 packet of vanilla sugar
some water
Let it boil until the apples are soft, then crush the whole with a fork. Let cool down.
Then a round springform pan is greased and filled in about 2/3 of the dough. Smooth and prick several times with a fork. Spread the apple compote on it and also smooth it out. Roll out the remaining dough and cut out narrow strips or cut with a knife. Lay them in a grid shape on the apple compote. Then you bake the cake in about 20 minutes at 200 degrees until the dough is golden brown.
