Crack walnuts - very easy with a nail file
Fresh walnuts are great, especially in cakes or salads! Unfortunately, they crack when cracking with the nutcracker usually in zig-parts and you have to pick out the nut crumbs from the shell remnants.
Here is my tip, in which guaranteed no more peel pieces in the cake:
Take a nail file!
That sounds ridiculous at first - but the purpose justifies the means, and everyone I've told this trick just does it. Hold the tip of the nail file quite far down and, as far as it goes without force, stick it into the small lower opening of the walnut - a short spin, it makes crack - and you not only have 99% of the nut in EXACTLY two halves, it is too The effort is much easier than with a nutcracker!
