"Grilletta" of the GDR Hamburger

For a classic grilletta:

  • 1 roll (slightly larger wheat bread in the GDR)
  • 1 flat cutlet of pork
  • A few sour cucumber slices (Spreewälder cucumbers)
  • Ketchup (tomato paste sauce)

preparation

  1. Cut bread rolls in half and toast on the cut surfaces in a hot pan.
  2. Place heated meatballs on the lower half of the roll, place the sour cucumber slices on top.
  3. Apply ketchup to the lid and a grilletta is formed when folding.

History:

The Grilletta is a variation of the hamburger from the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). The term Grilletta is an art word.

The only known Grilletta Stube was the one at the Berlin TV Tower. The Grilletta has always been produced regionally different and therefore I put the classic recipe for me online.
