Hausfrauen-Winke from 1933 - Part 2

In the budget tips from ancient times, I have found some that are still known and really interesting. I picked a few.

Make glass unbreakable: Put the jar in a jar of cold water, add some salt and bring the water to a boil! After half an hour of cooking, allow the water to cool again, remove the glass and dry it. It then became unbreakable.

Perpetual Barometer: A full-grown pine cone is hung from a waxed or oil-soaked string in front of the window; If rain or snow is expected, the scales will contract. The more beautiful and stable weather is to be expected, the more the scales diverge.

Secret ink: Dip a sheet of good writing paper in clean water, lay it on a smooth hard surface (glass, sheet metal) and smooth it so that it leaves no air bubbles. Then put a dry paper over it and write on it with a hard pointy pencil under moderate pressure. The wet paper is dried in the air without artificial heat. - The completely opaque script appears when the recipient moisten the sheet again on both sides and holds against the light. After drying, it disappears again. With stronger heating the writing is usually destroyed.

Fly: they are kept away from windowpanes, pictures and mirrors by brewing chopped onions with boiling water and then washing the glass with them after cooling.

Prevent the freezing of the windows: Mix 55 grams of glycerin with 1 liter of spirit, which contains some fragrant agent, e.g. a trifle amber oil is added. As soon as the mixture is clear, rub the inner window with a leatherette or linen flap. This prevents the sweating and freezing of the disc.

Cheap moth protection: Walnut leaves keep the moths away from clothing and fur.

Destroy moth brood: The moth-infested clothing, rugs, etc. are covered with a wet cloth that is ironed hot. The invading hot fumes kill the brood.

Clean sponges: Cut a lemon into small pieces, knead the sponge thoroughly and rinse well in water.

Fresh rust on iron: is removed by a cork moistened with oil.

Dazzling white linen: is achieved by cooking a linen bag in the wash water.

Against dandruff: Rub the scalp once a week with egg yolk! This is left to dry for half an hour on the scalp and then washed with lukewarm water.

Note: This 32-page booklet is very old and yellowed. On the cover reads: "This book costs only 45 pfennig". That's well worth it.
