Schinkenfleckerln is a dish from the Austrian / Bohemian cuisine. We like to eat it all year round, but I find it to be great, especially in the summer, served with fresh salads.
In the past you had to save extra and the meat content of this dish was accordingly low. There is even an old Viennese song for that. by the Austrian songwriter, composer and cabaret artist HERMANN LEOPOLDI from 1938:
Why plays with the ham steaks?
all the while hiding the meat -
or am I blind -
that I never find the ham ....?
Even when I was still a child / adolescent (around 1965), I always looked for the meat / ham in the ham steak - without knowing the song back then.
Of course, the meat is bigger today and I would like to introduce this dish to you.
