Sweet blood soup with "bones" - a little idea for Halloween

Or at any other time, when you're on scary things. Basically it is a traditional Japanese soup called "Oshiruko", which is usually eaten in autumn or winter. Because of its beautiful red color, however, it is great as "blood" for Halloween parties.

ingredients

  • One can (about 500 g) "Red Bean Paste" (available at Asialaden)
  • 2 liters of water
  • 100 g of soft tofu (should be found in the health food store or Asian store)
  • 100 g of sticky rice flour (if necessary, it also works with normal rice flour)

preparation

So, now get to work. Put the tofu and the flour in a bowl and knead until it makes a smooth dough. If it is too dry (and crumbly), just add some water if it is too soft (and mash) some flour. It should feel like a soft cookie dough. From this small bones are formed. Bring water to a boil in a pot and have a bowl of iced water next to it. Put the "bones" in the hot water. When they get to the surface get out and immediately into the ice water with it. When all bones are done, put them aside.

The beginning sounded like a lot of effort? To compensate for the much lazier second part. Put the bean paste together with the water in a saucepan and bring to a boil while stirring. Distribute in small bowls and add a few bones to each serving. That was it. Actually pretty simple.

And if you want to be traditional, just roll the dough into balls instead of making it out.
