The tools of the trade

The ingredients

What are the basic ingredients of a good cocktail bar? Of course it depends on what you like to drink, but you should already have some things in stock, you can always complete:

  • gin, vodka, tequila, Cachaca, rum, whiskey (no single malt please, that would be a pity).
  • Cointreau / Triple Sec, drier Vermouth (Noilly Prat, Martini dry), Creme de Cassis
  • Grenadine syrup
  • lemon juice, lime juice, Mineral water carbonated (the bartender says soda water)

Basics, tips and tricks

  1. Drinks made from clear ingredients are usually stirred so that the drink does not turn cloudy.
  2. These are stirred with whole ice cubes until the stirring glass is fogged.
  3. For drinks in shakers: Shake the shaker, not yourself.
  4. In order to shake well, add five to six ice cubes for a serving of drink, making a double serving only three to four. You never fill the shaker to the brim. Per person one expects 6cl alcohol.
  5. The shaker order: ice cream, non-alcoholic ingredients, alcohol.
  6. Hot drinks are disgusting, so shake all ingredients as long as possible or stir until the drink is really chilled? but not until the ice completely dissolves so that the drink does not water down. The guideline is 10 to 20 seconds.
  7. Helpful are precooled glasses? If you have no space in the fridge, put one or two ice cubes in the glass. Remove before pouring!
  8. If chopped ice is needed, crushen until the last minute, otherwise it melts too fast.
  9. Never pour on a swing but in small portions - the drink can spread better.

The recipes

Martini Dry / Martini Cocktail - The Original: Stirred, not shaken

Mix 6-8 cl of gin with 1cl of dry Vermouth (Noilly Prat) and ice cubes in a stir-glass. Drain, olive to it. Finished.

James Bond? Rebelled? Back then, against the cocktail establishment, adding vodka as an ingredient, shaking the clear drink and demanding a lemon instead of the olive. His recipe: "Three measure Gordon's (gin), a measure of vodka and a half measure of Kina Lillet." The rather bitter liqueur Kina Lillet no longer exists today, so Bond's Martini Dry is mixed with dry vermouth.

Caipirinha

Quarter again half a lime, pound vigorously with 2-3 teaspoons of brown sugar in a suitable glass until the juice comes out. Fill with crushed ice and add 5cl cachaca. In many recipes, a whole lime is required, but that makes the drink too sour for my taste.

Mojito

1 bar spoon of fine sugar is mixed well with the juice of half a lime. Then crush mint leaves in it and add the squeezed lime. Fill with crushed ice, 6cl white rum and mineral water and stir.

Margarita - The salt edge makes it? S

Shake well 4cl Tequila with 2cl Cointreau and 2cl fresh lemon or lime juice in a shaker (with ice cubes). Bathe the rim of the cocktail glass in lemon juice and dip in salt.

A wonderful variation (without salt edge) is a strawberry margarita, add 4cl tequila, 2cl lemon or lime juice, just 1cl Cointreau, a scoop of crushed ice and fresh or thawed strawberries and mix everything in a blender.

Side car

If you take instead of the Tequila Cognac you get a Side Car.

Tequila Sunrise - The color splendor

Half a glass of highball is filled with crushed ice, 6cl tequila, 1-2cl grenadine and a dash of lemon juice.Now pour slowly with orange juice. The grenadine red alcohol mixture then rises slowly and gives the sunrise mood.

Pina Colada - So what of Caribbean

6cl brown or white rum is thoroughly shaken with 6cl pineapple juice, 2cl coconut cream and 2cl sweet cream in the shaker with crushed ice. Drain into a longdrink glass, put on umbrellas and wake up holiday feelings!

Planter's Punch - The Glory of the Southern States

Already Scarlett O? Hara and Rhett Butler were sipping Planter's punch? if they were blown away by the wind, who knows.

6cl brown rum, 2cl lemon juice, 2 cl grenadine and 8cl orange juice are mixed well with ice in the shaker and strained into a longdrink glass. Decorated with orange slice and cocktail cherry. In addition to grenadine, other syrups can also be used.

Manhattan - Some like it hot

Unforgettable, how? Daphne? Jack Lemmon in the sleeping compartment Manhattan in the hot water bottle mixes. We prefer to take ice cream and a mixing glass and mix with 4cl whiskey (no malt!), 3cl dry vermouth and 1 dash of Angostura.

Daiquiri - The favorite drink of Ernest Hemingway

Shake 5cl white rum with 3cl lemon or lime juice, 2cl sugar syrup and crushed ice in the shaker. If you add 1cl Grenadine, you have a Pink Daiquiri and something for the eye!

Cosmopolitan - Sex and the City

Shake 2 cl of vodka, 2 cl of cranberry juice (or a little grenadine), 1 cl of Cointreau or Triple Sec and 1 cl of lime juice in the shaker with crushed ice until it has dissolved.

White Russian - The dude

The main foodstuff of The Big Lebowski: 4cl of vodka are stirred with 2cl of Kahlua in a stir-fry on ice, then you give it slightly battered cream on it.

Bloody Mary

Here you have to shake the shaker really well, so that the spices dissolve beautifully:

5cl vodka, 1cl lemon juice, celery salt, Worcester sauce, pepper, Tabasco and 10cl tomato juice. Classically, the Bloody Mary is served with a celery stick.
