Basil! Always fresh on the table - cheapest!

Basil with fresh tomatoes. To pasta dishes. Or just for the decoration of delicious food. Delicious.

Not everybody has a herbal teas. Sure, it's well known that this herb is also available for the windowsill - but cheap?

But! Almost no one (and almost no mum) knows that basil can easily be "pulled" by itself. So if the merchant around the corner is again such a teapot for -.99 cents, buy one. Find a nice bright place and pour something daily if possible.

Right now, you thin out the plant and cut 4-6 stems as far down as possible. Put into the water, roots form after only 5-7 days, which allow to plug the small offshoots, all in a pot, with sufficient distance.

It is important to take a pot that is big enough. I always take one with 12-14 cm diameter. When planting be careful that the filigree roots do not break (but they are more robust than expected). In the big pot, the roots now form first. But then, if you have not missed the daily watering, you will be rewarded with much nicer basil than you would have expected.

Incidentally, basil flowers beautifully too. The top shoots with the flowers you can also cut and store in a small bowl in the bathroom or wardrobe - should be good against vermin and smells good.

In times of oversupply you can also freeze the leaves either whole or finely chopped. DO NOT wash before - otherwise you have nothing but a green lump!

Incidentally, you can also seed in a large flowerpot in the spring - makes real fun.
