Build the tomato house yourself

After having so much success with our tomatoes last year, we want to reach that goal again and get away from the ugly umbrellas as rain cover. Since the bed is in close proximity to huge trees, often falling down cones or branches, came a tomato house with foil, as you get in the hardware store, out of the question. So build yourself.

You need:

  • 4 square timbers 7 x 7 cm, two of which are 1.60 m long, two 1.40 cm long
  • 4 hot-dip galvanized impact sleeves
  • 2 pieces of wooden slats each 2 m in length, 2 pieces in 50 cm length
  • 6 wooden slats in 50 cm as counter battens

How to proceed:

  1. Beat the 4 impact sleeves into the ground, using a plastic part (see the green part on the photo), so that the sleeve does not get any dents.
  2. Then insert the back 2 squared timbers (1.40), then the front ones (1.60). Does this fit all the top wooden slats for attaching the plastic roof. In between, always check that everything is in balance!
  3. Then screw on each of the right and the left side 3 cross struts ladder similar.
  4. Finally, the plastic roof comes on it, it has a small projection to the front (10 cm). Finished!

If you want, you can tinker for cooler days, a roller blind made of bubble wrap and lower if necessary.

We had the whole material cost about 50 euros, the plastic roof we had left.

The tomato house is designed for 7 plants. The flower pots that can be seen on one of the photos are only temporary, because of the heavy rain today, housed there, they are chilies.

The flower pots on the tomato sticks are labeled with the name of the variety and will be removed when I have made a variety plate.
