Cat / cat run away - lure with recording device
We have two pure domestic cats, Erkan and Stephan. When we moved into our new apartment, Erkan, our cat, wanted to inquire about the new environment and he is suddenly Run away.
He was out for the first time, did not know the surroundings, had little relation to the new apartment and our neighbor's dog was in the garden all the time. That's why Erkan could not make it home again.
We searched him for two days in all the neighboring gardens and yards, set a trap with treats, hung posters in the neighborhood, distributed flyers, all to no avail. Of course, it was not possible to enter every private piece to search for the cat.
But I've already read somewhere that pure cats do not run away immediately when they're out the first time. They are too scared, so they stay somewhere near the house for several days, hiding in a bush, but do not dare to look or listen.
On the third evening I came up with the idea to record the voice of Stefan, Erkan's brother and to search for the cat with it. We offered Stefan a piece of ham, which he was not allowed to have right away.
He had to meow for a few minutes and his voice was recorded on the phone. Then I waited until 1 o'clock, so it is quieter outside, went with the phone and a fragrant chicken piece back into the garden and played Stephans Meauen.
After a couple of minutes, Erkan actually responded and came to me from the neighboring garden. Of course he was very hungry and was scared to death. But he recognized Stephans voice and wanted to come back to him! So we took him out of hiding and took him home to his brother.
At the shelter I was told afterwards that he would probably have stayed another day in the area but then left forever. We were really lucky!
