Create modern exterior decoration for the house entrance

Some time ago, I was looking for a new modern exterior decoration for the front door. In the Internet and garden centers, I got only suggestions, because: Anyone can buy!

... and then my neighbor happened to get a load of tree trunks for his lumberyard.

I could get rid of a trunk for him, because I had in mind exactly what my new exterior decoration should look like and for this I needed an impressive piece of wood. An object of warm wood and cold stainless steel went through my head.

The friendly neighbor also told me the trunk and put me the two parts on the doorstep. It could start.

Some machines are needed for this object; It is therefore not interesting for everyone, but these are usually not other tips.

What is needed

  • 1 tree trunk - better than fresh is dry peeled wood, which can also be painted white
  • preferably a nice neighbor or a chainsaw
  • 1 stainless steel bar of about 1 meter
  • Bolts with nuts for the bottom plate, as long as you like one
  • 1 bunch fir
  • Wire for fastening
  • 1 80's LED fairy lights
  • Decoration articles of metal
  • Cones, winterly / autumnal small wood
  • Hot glue gun
  • Burlap ribbon
  • 1 medium ball in silver (in my case an old round crystal vase)
  • Deco spraying bag silver
  • clearcoat

The work can begin

  • With a 12er-drill 2 holes each at a freely selectable distance but drilled on both sides at the same height in the branch halves. How far the rods are eventually apart is due to the size of the decorative items hanging in between.
  • A stainless steel rod is shortened to the desired length, possibly round the ends and connect the logs by pushing the respective rod together. How far the tree trunk halves stand apart depends on the ball that is to be placed on top: it must have good hold between the trunks and must not slide down.
  • In addition to (usually expensive) stainless steel balls, medium sized footballs that can be easily sprayed silver are also suitable as balls. I still had an old crackling ball that I sprayed from the inside.
  • Starting on one side below, a string of lights is now led upwards on the inside of a tree trunk by means of a hot glue gun and lowered down on the other side. It is important not to glue the LEDs in the middle, as the ball should not be obstructed by the bulbs.
  • The ball can now be placed. The advantage of a round vase is that through the opening still some LEDs can be placed in the vase, which sparkle beautifully through the glass.
  • Laterally, an arrangement with fir and branches can be attached, the last meters of the fairy lights are also distributed in it and a thick ribbon with a thick bow adorns the bouquet.
  • The rest of the chain is hidden on the floor under cones and other winter decoration of your choice.

After Christmas, the fairy lights and fir bouquet are removed and the trunk is decorated according to the respective season.

If you want to make a similar or similar object for the interior, you should pay attention to dried wood. I hope for a hot summer, so that my tribe dries and I can protect it for the next winter protective and thus can be preserved.
