Heavily soiled kitchen worktop made of plastic

Washing soda has been with us, i. with my wife and me, proved to be a true magic potion. Our worktop in the kitchen is plastic-coated (Wenge optics, so very dark), so you immediately against the light every fingerprint and every stain, especially fat, sees.

In order not to destroy the appearance of the plate (uniform semi-gloss), my wife was afraid to clean them with appropriate commercial grease cleaners, as previous attempts in inconspicuous places did not show the desired success.

Over the years, the plate was therefore always unsightly, greasy and sticky. We even ordered an employee of the plate manufacturer, who tried it with degreaser, alcohol and even nitrocellulose - with very moderate success.

After various searches on the net, I then tried washing soda (when my wife was away). The miracle recipe? consisted of one liter of lukewarm water, in which a tablespoon of washing soda was dissolved with a splash of detergent.

With the rough side of a plastic kitchen sponge, I then worked the worktop and you soon noticed how the initially somewhat dirty worktop was getting smoother. After several wiping with clear water and drying with a lint-free cloth, the worktop looked like the first day. To give it some shine, I polished the plate with very little cooking oil.

The result was excellent, my wife could hardly believe it when she got home. Now, a few weeks after this action, the plate is still the same as on the day of cleaning.
