Insulate old windows inexpensively

In old buildings are often old and leaky windows or doors. These can be inexpensively improved in their heat balance with simple measures.

1st window seal:

Old windows have no seal between frame and frame. Who here a sealing tape made of rubber or foam attaches prevents the draft.

2. Door strips:

For doors, in addition to seals, a sealing strip against passage under the door can be attached.

3. Window foil:

For old windows with only one pane, a window foil can be glued to the frame. This creates the air layer between the outer and inner pane that is important for the insulation, which helps to save on heating costs.

3M offers a "window film SCOTCH", which is attached to the frame by double-sided adhesive tape. The trick: The film is so smooth during subsequent blow-drying that it is virtually invisible as a second disc.

In combination, all three measures helped raise the temperatures in our old apartment from 17 degrees to a cool 20 degrees Winter, with the heating does not need to be fully turned on. The materials are available at the hardware store, but cheaper is ebay!
