Musty books
By freezing, the musty smell of books, disappear.
While browsing the cellar, I found a bundle of 1st class writing sheets from my childhood (am 56). That they were still in good shape, I wanted to give them to my granddaughter, who soon goes to school. There was a problem though.
Due to the long storage in the cellar, they had a very strong musty smell. I had heard that cat litter is good, but I wanted to try something different.
I had heard that by freezing, this smell can also disappear.
Here are the steps:
- The book or sheets are wrapped in a layer of newspaper. Then the package is firmly glued with tape.
- Now we put everything in a plastic bag, which is as airtight as possible, again wrapped with tape.
- The freezer is now the place where everything should happen. We put our book or sheets in it.
- After about 2 days, everything is taken out again. Open everything carefully. Preferably the loose leaves, individually to dry on a table. Store a book airy and warm.
I tried both, book and slip and was thrilled. Everything went very well!
